Establishing a Fund

If you wish to honor a loved one, support the work of a particular non-profit organization, promote student scholarship support, or promulgate the values of a variety of community charities, you can establish a fund at the Yellow Springs Community Foundation. You can support the causes you care about through a fund that meets your unique vision.

Memorial Funds may be established at the Foundation as a tribute to a relative or friend. In the case of a death when no plans have yet been made, the obituary notice may suggest memorial gifts to the Foundation in the name of the loved one. The future use of the funds can be determined by the family in consultation with a representative of the Foundation.

Whether determined ahead of time or after death, a Memorial Fund may be used to create an endowment (see Endowment Fund below), to fund a specific project, or may be directed to another nonprofit organization that had special meaning for the honoree.

Endowment Funds, established through an agreement between the Foundation and the donor, are permanent funds that provide annual earnings (minus expenses) to one or more beneficiary nonprofit organizations. In general, the minimum for an endowment fund is $10,000, except for scholarship or award endowments , which require a higher minimum for a reasonable annual yield. (See YSCF Endowment Policy)
